I said I had a gluten allergy, and they immediately changed their gloves without being asked. Any Costa Vida I’ve tried always seems to be very good about cross contamination, especially since most of their menu is gluten free anyway. I got the steak salad with corn tortillas. I’m glad that even their chip strips on top of the salad are safe. Delicious and no reaction!

From their allergen list: We have worked diligently to remove wheat gluten from all our sauces, dressings, and proteins. Natural glutens remain only in our flour and wheat tortillas and in two desserts--tres leches and key lime pie. This means that we offer "oceans of gluten-free options" in our menu. All of these items are gluten-free: all enchiladas, all tacos, all salads (without the flour or wheat tortilla), all nachos, and our chicken tortilla so up...which uses corn strips.

They say they are gluten free but when they use their gluten filled gloves to grab the chips a change of gloves for me won't make a difference. They are already have contaminated them. It happens for most everything I assume because I get sick everytime I eat there. Not safe for celiacs.

They are very aware and have a good protocol that they carefully follow to prevent contamination. However there are wheat tortillas being prepared in the same kitchen area but several feet away. I'm a celiac and had no problem. Food is really good. Definitely 5*s!
Cross contamination does occur when staff places meats with tongs touching the wheat tortilla then places those tongs back in the GF meats bins... The recipes may be GF but the cross contamination is the hurdle here for celiacs

Awesome job! Very impressed when the staff washed hands before handling my meal. They also don't make you feel like a burden and are very helpful.

Staff washed hands, put on new gloves and followed my order through. Great food!

I have Celiacs, and latex allergies. im a regular there, so they ordered latex free gloves. The staff is knowledgeable about gfs, and other allergies. Plus the staff is friendly, and on the ball! This is my go to restaurant!

THIS location is amazing. My husband is very sensitive, and can only eat at this location. They have a SEPARATE PRESS for their corn tortillas. ONE person walks your order through, so no one else touches it. He's never gotten sick at this location. You still have some consistency issues with how hot the sauces are, but they're still tasty. This location is safe. I've had two very sensitive celiacs eat here, and they have never gotten sick here. GREAT location.
This company is not safe!!! They make their wheat tortillas in the same press that they use to make their "gluten free" corn tortillas. Cross contamination is a huge issue with all of their restaurants and the employees have not been trained in gluten free production practices. I do not know a celiac who has not gotten sick at Costa Vida.
Not all the workers seem know about the gf protocols but when they do, they are very good at following them; changing their gloves, getting certain foods from the original containers etc.

I had a sweet pork salad. The person that helped me wasn’t sure about my questions but the shift manager helped out. Gloves changed, one person took my order through the whole line. Fryer is GF and tortilla strips are safe.
Only thing in the restaurant with gluten are the flour tortillas. Watch your food and it looks at least as safe as Chipotle…honestly maybe a bit safer because they use utensils for lettuce and cheese where other places use gloves.
