The waiter was able to easily advise on what options were gluten free so ordering was easy, even if there wasn't a specific GF menu. I had Poutine to start and Mussels and chips as my main. Both were delicious!

Delicious food with knowledgeable staff and great drinks. Safety was not a concern with almost everything being gluten free with modifications. No separate gf menus. Definitely try the poutine!

Don’t go on a Sunday. They serve only brunch with very little gf options.
GF poutine was delicious! Waitress said they use a dedicated fryer for the fries. Cocktails also great. Beautiful space. Friendly & attentive waitstaff.

We were greeted by Lorenzo who when I asked if they had gf poutine, said if we're out I'll go get you one! 🥰 They weren't out and it was stunning. This is the place to go. Service was excellent and my god that demi glace was to die for.

Modavie was very accommodating for Celiac. Dedicated GF French fries fryer. We had the salmon with vegetables and rice and the filet mignon, with mashed potatoes and a side of fries. No reaction, all good! Both were noted by waiter as naturally GF.
I was so looking forward to risotto but the waiter said it is not and can’t be made gluten free. The pasta was decent as were the fries.
Update: I rarely if ever get sick after eating out and I am sick now :(

When I came across all the positive reviews for Modavie, I knew I wanted to try it out on my first visit to the city. My experience was so positive, with the server being wholly knowledgeable about the menu (as others have noted it’s unmarked but the majority of it is or can be prepared celiac safe) and the food being incredibly delicious, that my family and I returned a second time for dinner just a few nights later. It’s invaluable to find a place while traveling where you feel safe eating and have options (and golf options, at that), and Modavie was that for me.
Food I ate:
- poutine with braised lamb (my first ever poutine experience, knocked me away, dedicated fryer for fries)
- mushroom truffle risotto (best risotto I’ve ever had)
- lamb t-bone
- muscles and fries (so perfect)
- vanilla ice cream (MUST try)
- crème brûlée
- sorbet (blood orange flavor)
There was also live music every night after 7 which gave it the coziest, holiday pub vibe. I couldn’t recommend going here more for amazing food that just happens to be gluten free and celiac safe!

Servers can handle GF requests. They do have GF poutine, but it’s the same onion sauce they put on steaks. It’s not real gravy.

The waiter was very helpful in identifying items on the menu that are gluten free. And also offered to check with the chef when I asked about other items and cross-contact. Fries are cooked separately, and the gravy on the poutine is prepared “the French way”, which he said was without flour as a thickener. And the truffle risotto was delicious as well.

Atmosphere was perfection and the food was delicious! My husband and I shared two of the GF and vegetarian entrees - a pasta and a risotto, both of which were amazing! We were talking about this meal for days. Will definitely return on our next trip!

I finally got to have poutine! It was so delicious. The atmosphere was also lovely - such a neat French bistro right in the heart of old Montréal. I’d come all the time if I could. Definitely a must if you’re in town!

The food was excellent. I had the lamb poutine and it was delicious. They didn’t skimp on the lamb either. The only thing I would change is the $$. It should be $$$. 4 people with only water came to over $100 US dollars not including tip. Meals were $23 up to $41. Kind of pricy for my frugal wallet.

Poutine was insanely good. The menu looked equally delicious. Looking forward to returning.
p.s. just a note on the poutine. It’s not the French Canadian family restaurant style you’d be thinking of. It’s more of a French bistro (lick-the-plate-if-your-not-in-public) gravy with frites and high quality cheese curds. Whatever you call it, it was excellent - just adjust your expectations.

Good experience! No gluten free menu but server was knowledgeable and answered all my questions. You can have the poutine which is cooked separately. When I asked about one of the salads she said the dressing was outsourced and can contain gluten, they offered to switch it for an in-house dressing. Overall, the music was good; the food was good; and I didn’t get sick.

I was hoping we'd be able to find a French-style Bistro to eat at and Modavie fit the bill! The manager reassured us when he seated us that the waiter could walk us through what was safe to eat. We had french onion soup, poutine, and ratatouille. The poutine was so good we ordered a second helping!

Mixed review. The waiters are familiar with celiac, they are well trained. However - when we went, I ordered a simple meal. Filet mignon with fries. When I tested the meal with a portable device for the presence of gluten below 20ppm, it flagged gluten. I asked the waiter and she confirmed the kitchen made a mistake and put the wrong sauce. They tried again, this time just fries and it passed. Hard to say! I would dine here again but not without testing.

Service and ambiance were incredible. Food was top notch. They really understand celiac, our server went over each meal and explained what was safe (all sauces except for Caesar dressing, dedicated fryer). After each order was rung in, he came back to tell me again he had let the kitchen know about my celiac. Felt well taken care of and had absolutely no reaction. This was a meal I will always remember ♥
