Great local restaurant. They do have a gf menu. I had an omelet and pancakes and the chef used a new skillet and clean gloves. They definitely understand GF and celiac. The waitress was knowledgeable and told me that the chef working was great.

Yes, they do have a gluten free menu. When I asked how the food is prepared, I was told they use the same utensils and “scrape” the grill after each order to “clean” it. This is NOT a celiac safe restaurant by any stretch of the imagination.

Eaten here a few times and just love the food! BUT, I do want to remind everyone that it’s always a risk when eating out. I had ordered gluten free pancakes on one recent visit and it turned out that they were not gluten free pancakes. Mistakes happen and because I’ve had such great experiences before, I did not quadruple check as I usually do. So while I would recommend this place to celiacs, always keep it in mind that mix ups do happen.

We loved this breakfast (two locations in town). Setup like a Perkins chain but with better food, large portions. Separate gf menu. Said use bobs pancake mix - can ask for oil instead of milk to make it dairy free. Couldn’t finish food. Tasty.

Went for breakfast and there was a wide variety of selections. Great meal and if anything is to be kept in mind, it is that they will serve a lot of food in a single entree. This is THE place for celiac breakfast in Helena.

Based on the reviews, I decided to try breakfast today, and was quite surprised to see a generous GF menu! Per the reviews I let them know I was celiac. My omelette was great!

Excellent choices for celiac. They use gluten free pancake mix and buns. They are careful when you let them know and actually have a specific gluten free menu.
Yes
Ate breakfast and lunch here. Both meals were perfect!! Huckleberry pancakes were a dream and homemade gluten free sausages were to die for. Gluten free buns/rolls with burger for lunch. Fabulous.
Yes
My daughter and I both have celiac and we love Steve's. It's nice to have a breakfast place in town for those days that I don't want to cook
It's best to tell your server that you have celiac disease because they will be more careful. I usually don't get sick here and the food is good! They have gluten free French dip au jus which is awesome.
Yes
Good pancakes and the usual good eggs and meat.
Great food and awesome staff. The waitress checked to see if I also Had dairy allergies along with the gluten. I had a French dip on gluten free bun and it was very good and filling. Fires are not in a d fixated fryer but I tried them any way and I had no problems. Hit my issues are not super sensitive. I would eat here again and am looking forward to it.
tasty but undercooked the waffles a bit

This was a great little place to go to. They had a gluten free menu and GF pancakes. Portions are huge so order small. They were very friendly and if I am ever in Helena again I will sure to come here for breakfast.
Our waitress had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned cross-contamination and celiac disease. But once I had her talk to the kitchen the chefs seemed like they knew what they were doing. I got gluten free pancakes, hash browns, bacon, and eggs. One of the hot sauces they serve is Frank's Red Hot which is also gluten free. Surprisingly I didn't get sick. But the pancakes were very starchy and hard to eat. The portions are very large so I suggest getting a Short Stack instead of a Full Stack. It was an okay experience, but not a place that I'll return to.
I was very excited to learn about the gf options at Steve's as my husband loves the restaurant but I will NEVER try that again. My waitress claimed to have a gluten sensitivity and instructed me what to stay away from. I had the pancakes and got extremely sick. After reading other reviews the doesn't seem to be the usual case, but I'd rather not risk being the one being contaminated out of many who were not and stay away from Steve's Cafe!

I had the gluten free pancakes and scrambled eggs. It was definitely more than 1 person could eat. Good pancakes!
Wow! If you're hungry, this is the place for gf breakfast!!!
My son & I shared the full stack of gf huckleberry pancakes with huckleberry syrup, 2 eggs & 4 strips of bacon. Let me warn you: the gf pancakes are huge!!!!
They use BRM and made it with water instead of milk at my request.
They have a very good gf breakfast & lunch menu. We came at 1 pm so we missed the rush. Service wasn't fast, but I'm fine knowing they're making everything freshly gf!
Whoever wrote the review about the staff clearly doesn't know great customer service. The staff is always willing to help me on anything! There is even a super sweet gal who has a gluten free allergy who works there. Always great food and Service. Also the coffee is AMAZING!
I applaud the GF effort, but the place is always crowded, the staff are very hit or miss when it comes to true customer service, and the coffee is over priced.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff ready to meet my needs. Make foods from scratch. Had my first restaurant GF pancakes & they were very willing to cook them off the grill in a separate pan. They were great! Next time I'm in Montana I'll have to try the huckleberry pancakes..
Delicious breakfast foods - gluten free pancakes as well as other basic breakfast options - knowledgeable staff
