I read the reviews, about the shared fryer, so I called the restaurant to ask a few quetions. The woman I spoke with was truly lovely, I mean, the nicest person! But, she confirmed that the fryer is a shared fryer and that they use "A lot" of a popular seasoning brand that has the following statement: "While the original Tony Chachere’s seasoning does not contain gluten in their ingredient list, there is risk for cross contamination during the manufacturing process. Due to this risk, people with gluten sensitivities or allergies should not use this seasoning."
She did say that they could grill chicken or fish, using a clean fry pan on the grill and the GF side options are premixed veggies.
So, if you're not terribly sensitive, you might check it out. I'd love to be able to go, but I can't risk it. :(

Gluten free fried seafood right on the coast. It was so exciting to have these options. We told the server of my husband’s allergy and she confirmed with the chief. The sea food and view of the Gulf was amazing. Fried shrimp, fish and oysters all breaded with Corn flour. Skip the grab claws though. A lot of work for not much food.

All gluten free fried foods are in shared fryer and the cheese sauce on nachos contains gluten.

Outstanding GF fried food!! We had GF fried fresh red fish with Hollandaise sauce, GF fried fresh snapper with artichokes, onions, mushrooms and crab in a wine sauce; both had fresh seasonable vegetables; our son had GF fried chicken strips and French fries; appetizers we had GF fried eggplant with a remoulade sauce and fried green tomatoes with a hollandaise sauce. Everything was absolutely delicious. They also have broiled meals and salads that would be GF. Our server Maritisa was very knowledgeable about our options, she was very friendly and did a fantastic job. The outdoor seating was great, what a view! Edit to add we went a second time because the first time was so good! Second time we had fried fish, a beautiful salad with fried shrimp and my son opted for a hamburger to change it up: we ordered no bun and brought our own, all was delicious!

Our waiter Connor was very knowledgeable about which items on the menu were gluten free. He even told the staff(without me asking) that it was for an allergy to be extra careful. There were several good options but I went with the fried catfish since it’s been well over a decade since I could order fried food in a restaurant. It is fried in cornmeal, very tasty, and I didn’t get sick at all. 2 thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻

I ordered the fresh catch meal and fried seafood combo. The fish was battered in corn flour. The cook offered an alternative side other than the pasta that came with the meal.
Very delicious!

Gluten free fried seafood!! I had friend green tomatoes, fried shrimp and fried oysters. They use corn flour so it's Celiac safe. I didn't get sick so I will be back!
Updated: I visited Steve's again and had the fried combo platter (shrimp, fish, oysters). I used a gluten detection test by Imaware the following day and it came back negative (no detection of gluten within the last 24 hours). As 2 other reviews said the frier is not celiac safe as cross contamination is a risk, but I was told they only fry items in corn meal.
Yes
Hubby is celiac. Last outing he played it very safe. Hamburger, no bun. Fixings on separate plate. Also replaced fries with veggies. Asked for NO seasonings. Didn’t take a chance on deep fryers. No reaction and he was able to have a meal with friends.
They are now making sure they disclose that their fryer is shared with gluten containing items. They do fry most seafood in corn flour, so if you can tolerate cross contamination then go for it. Otherwise, NOT Celiac Safe!

Wonderful gluten free food. I haven't had fried catfish in years, and loved it! Celiac friendly.
I do not get to have fried oysters, shrimp or fried green tomatoes that often. This place is amazing. Gluten sensitive.
I was pumped about being able to have some Deep-Fried fish after reading other peoples reviews, unfortunately their fryers are shared with gluten cooked ingredients (NOT Celiac-Safe). I was told some people that are Celiac can handle it, I know i cannot. They did offer other options though and the blackened seafood was pretty good and better than a salad.

Great service, knowledgeable staff and best of all great fried seafood!

Wonderful food! Fish is fried in corn flour so it’s safe and delicious. This was the first time I’ve been able to have fried shrimp in four years. The manager was very knowledgeable about gluten.

First time here and I LOVED it! I had the shrimp Diane with veggies but i also ate oysters from my hubbys fried seafood platter (everything is fried in corn flour and it's so YUMMY!!!) I will DEFINITELY be back and soon!!!!

One of my favorite local gf restaurants. Love the fried green tomatoes. Everything is fried using cornmeal.
I have celiac disease, and usually get at least a little sick any time I eat out. Not here! We were in town for an anniversary trip, and ate here twice. It was delicious, the service was outstanding, and I didn't suffer even a tiny bit! I highly recommend the fried green tomatoes and the fried shrimp. (I haven't been able to have fried food in a restaurant in 12 years, so this was a special treat). Just let the server know about your allergies, and request that any fried choices be pan fried.

Very good place to go for celiacs and all others, great fish choices. We told our server that my wife was celiac and that I stay gluten-free to make our lives easier and she told us what we could and couldn't have seemed very knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

Although they didn't have a gluten free menu, both the waiter and the chef were very helpful. They suggested a dish and there was a great sauce with artichoke hearts and shrimp. The chef grilled my fish in a separate pan. Very please.
