My overall low rating stems from the fact that I'm sensitive to cross contamination, so I haven't tried anything off of their "Gluten Friendly Menu". It warns you that there can be cross contamination because it's just the nature of bakeries and cafes. I get it. Lots of options if you aren't super sensitive though! But this rating is for my super sensitive stomach homies out there. We're so sad together.
However, I've been desperate and taking a few risks, disregarding the written warnings to order Espresso or Dark Chocolate Mousse from the counter. It's always in the top of the case when I am there, and they will use fresh gloves to snag one for you. I've yet to have a reaction and it is such a small special delight that I'm riding this wave for as long as I can. 5 star flavor.
Assuming an accommodating staff is there (and they see you awkwardly staring because you are interested in what are they are doing, or if they are just middle-distance in your wintertime thousand yard stare) , they'll clean up and use fresh gloves, etc to make you a safe beverage to drink. I've only asked twice because the coffee was more battery acid-like than I tend to drink, and it's honestly quite a bit of hassle for them.
This is so long because I love mousse but hate making it, and I have to keep it real for other people in my position.

Grabbed a quick cookie for breakfast before walking through Boston Common. They have several GF options. They are all displayed with the gluten items so there could be risk of cross contamination.

I had a wonderful experience here yesterday with bakery items. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I liked it so much. I brought my husband back today for breakfast. He enjoyed his regular food while I enjoyed my gluten-free food. It was so good I had to get some bakery items to go.

I came here twice in one day and a total of 4 times in my short DC trip. They have so many GF dessert options and can make their breakfast sandwiches on GF bread. I got their classic breakfast sandwich and it was so good! I also tried their tea cakes, strawberry and pistachio. Both were lovely! I wasn’t a fan of the chocolate muffin. It tastes like it had raisins or apples in it, something about it didn’t work for me. I didn’t eat it all. I got the chocolate mousse cake. AMAZING!! I had such a hard time deciding because everything looked incredible. There were 6-7 GF options for dessert alone, almost half the case was GF! I will say that some of the GF items were stacked on the same display plates as non-GF items, I chose not to get those items because they were clearly cross contaminated. But I only saw one GF item like that. I have a pretty significant gluten intolerance and had no reaction eating here. I will 100% always come back when in DC. Plus their coffee is really great too. 10/10!

They have gluten free items in the same display case as items that contain gluten. Sometimes they’re even touching. Cross contamination is a huge issue and they don’t understand the basics at all.
