Urban Plates

I am a high reacting celiac, and I had no problem eating lunch at this Urban Plates at The Forum in Carlsbad CA. I had the roasted sea bass with roasted small potatoes and asparagus. It was really good, cooked just right. These items were clearly marked as GF on the menu, and the person who took our order seemed knowledgeable enough.

They do their best to avoid cross contamination but the bread always is being crossed over all the food and flakes off onto gluten free food and then the prep area is now not clean. Also, it creates a lot of anxiety for me when there are a ton of people in line behind me as I’m asking for glove changes, prep clean, etc.

I think the place is over rated. when we got to the restaurant nobody explained how is the service employees just over exited asking what can I get for you??. not in a friendly manner. I ask for the a plate and the food was cold they forgot about my soup and side of vegetables. Is like a fast food restaurant bad service and bad food.

Great, fresh foods! They have a GF menu and are very accommodating!

Nice variety. A cafeteria type setting, but nice atmosphere.

It’s the kind of cafeteria style where you order at the counter and they bring it to your table. I love a restaurant that marks all of their dishes for GF, DF, vegetarian and this one does. However, I am not sure that the staff is super well trained. I ordered the chimichurri steak, broccoli and side salad (all marked GF) and told her that it was for a severe gluten allergy. She offered me GF bread but didn’t know if the GF bread was toasted in a separate toaster from the regular bread so I opted out of the GF bread. I would have liked to come back for a sandwich but with the unknown of the toasting of the bread, I am going to stick with the plates, salads and bowls. The food was delicious and I didn’t get sick.

Awful experience. Spoke with the staff about what was safe, ordered the safe selection and was given croutons on my salad, and two side dishes that had gluten in the main ingredients. So glad my kids didn’t eat the food!
