Amazing tacos and margs, and the menu is almost entirely gluten free. Only the flour tortillas are gluten, and those aren't fried meaning WE CAN EAT THE CHIPS!!!
I've had great experiences at Barrio with no reaction and I'm extremely sensitive diagnosed celiac. Make sure you talk to your server, as always, but overall a gluten free gem in the Lansing area.

This place was amazing in every way. Great food, amazing options, fantastic staff. It’s become a regular spot. I’ve never had a reaction and they take allergies super seriously. Love this place!

Best place to go for tortilla chips and salsa. They have a dedicated fryer. I am highly sensitive to cross contamination and I had no reaction. The tacos are amazing too!!

Disappointed by the service. Was told conflicting info about the fryer. Was initially told it was safe, until I pointed out a non-gf fried item, at which point it wasn’t safe. Staff was apologetic but it was still after I ate food that I was assured was safe even though it wasn’t. Steer clear of anything fried

I went here after a show at the Van Andel Arena. Staff were attentive and well-informed of the kitchen protocols and ingredients. Gluten free items are prepared in a separate area of the kitchen and fresh containers of ingredients. The menu is well marked, but I was concerned the "beer braised black beans" were marked incorrectly, although the server said it was gluten free beer that's used. The food tasted really good -- the cilantro lime rice is yummy! I wish the portions had been larger. I did a build your own taco with steamed corn tortilla, mushrooms, cilantro and onion, cheese, and salsa.

Great tacos that are completely customizable so you can ensure they’re gluten free. I mentioned to the host I have an allergy and she made sure to note it down. Mexican is always a go to for me and this place did not disappoint

I have celiac and have safely eaten at Barrio many times. It's my favorite Mexican restaurant. Love the queso and make your own burrito bowls! They take your allergy very seriously and things are clearly marked. The tortilla chips are gluten free also.

This is one of our go-to’s! With my bf and I both being gluten-free, it’s hard to come by places we are completely comfortable eating. The entire menu is labeled gluten free and dairy free, and the staff is very knowledgeable.

This is literally the best place! I stumbled upon it from a GF blog about Salem and had never heard of it. There are a ton of Gf options. Everything is clearly labeled and you can pick and choose your own meat, sauce, cheese on all the tacos. There are a ton of choices and other meals too I just had the tacos. The vibe is so cool and the drinks are great too. Highly recommend.

UPDATE: I have been a ton of times for dinner and not had an issue, but I went recently for brunch and ended up being sick from likely cross contact even though the waiter and kitchen staff assured me it was fine. It seemed like the kitchen was having some issues that day and I hadn’t had the brunch menu before, so I will likely still return for dinners, but I was disappointed when this happened!
Enjoyed a delicious meal! So much of the menu, including the chips, is gluten free, and they knew about Celiac and marked it carefully. All the food was delicious, and I will definitely return!

Y’all, let me tell you that I haven’t had tacos this good since I lived in California. We ate here tonight and 90% of their menu is GF. They also have a dedicated fryer for chips so they are SAFE! I’m celiac and have had no reaction. I’m so excited to have a safe place to eat so close to home. Delish.

Many GF options but don’t expect your waitstaff to be knowledgeable in contamination if you have celiac disease. The chips are considered GF even though they are fried in the same frier as flour tortillas. Even after telling my waitress that I couldn’t have anything fried, my corn taco shell ended up being deep fried.

Don’t miss this place!! Opened in Feb 2023. Delicious tacos! Spoke to manager. Tortilla chips fried in a separate fryer, away from any other equipment. Menu is clearly marked GF/Vegan/Vegetarian. You ‘build your own tacos’ by filling out your own order card. SO many GF options!! Everyone very knowledgeable and considerate with allergies. Great atmosphere and cocktails too.

Sooooo disappointed. They now fry something that has gluten so no chips or yucca fries for us Celiacs :( but you can get the cheesy corn with a plain arepa and it’s still pretty delicious! Tacos are extraordinary!

No GF issues whatsoever. Menu is clearly labeled with options and other allergens, and the chips and salsa that come free are safe.
Echoing concerns about the other location…for all the amazing things you could add to the tacos, they pretty much tasted like nothing. Despite the atmosphere and price range, the ingredient quality was notably sub-par. Up to each individual how much the beggar can be a chooser!

Newly opened taco place in Salem- tons of GF labels and options on the menu! Build your own tacos or bowls. Only thing in the fryers are corn tortillas chips. Staff was patient in helpful explaining how bowls are made and they made note of gluten allergy. Great food, will be back!

I have been here twice and both experiences were great! Gluten free items are clearly marked on the menu. It is recommended to tell your server about celiacs/gluten allergy so they can alert the kitchen, and write it next to your name on your order sheet. The guac is the best I’ve had and the salsa is great as well. Chips are all gluten free! They have hard or soft corn tortilla options as well as a burrito bowl option. Every time I pass through Lansing I make sure to stop by this place!

I had to fine a late night dinner on the fly and was of course super nervous! I had a really positive experience here, the server was fairly knowledgeable and honest (said not to have the chips because he can’t guarantee they aren’t fried), and took my concerns seriously when we dined in at like 11 PM. Tried to get take out but apparently they decline to do take out sometimes? Just FYI. Plenty of options as they have “build your own tacos” including corn tortillas. Menu labeled with GF choices. Food wasn’t amazing but I did not get sick, my #1 priority for sure as a Celiac.

Everything was so good and so safe! I made my own tacos and things was clearly labeled as gluten free (also showed if vegetarian or vegan). I wrote on my sheet that I had celiac and needed no cross contamination, and when the server came back I told her and she was knowledgeable about it and made sure it was safe. Also, the chips and salsa they gave out were automatically gluten free too!

Went the other night and ended up being handed tacos with flour tortillas (which I discovered after taking a bit). When I told the waitress she was apologetic but later the manager came over and started making jokes, asking if I was sure I “didn’t want more tacos with extra flour tortillas this time.” Told him that I was going to be I’ll from this, so no thanks.
They blamed it on new kitchen staff but I won’t be back regardless.

My sister and I live right above Barrio and she has Celiac. Amazing gluten-free selections, I was amazed it wasn’t on this app when I downloaded it and I just had to add it because my sister and I go there all the time.
