I was so excited to try Butter Milk Ranch because it had a high safety rating in the app. The food was delicious. Unfortunately, I’m already having symptoms of cross contamination. A couple things gave me pause, but I gambled because others reported to have safely eaten there. There were 3 red flags I should have (and normally would have) considered:
1. No dedicated kitchen space (it’s hard to find places around Nashville with dedicated space so that’s normal here). I was told that the area is cleaned and gloves are changed.
2. The pastry display was 2/3rds gluten free, but the top shelf was glutinous products (crumbs could fall onto the gf items below).
3. There is no flag or other indicator on the plate that the dish (sandwiches in our case) were gluten free. The server verbally confirmed that it was the gluten free focaccia bun when I asked as the food was brought to the table.
Also, some people mentioned a gf menu. There was no gf menu offered during my visit. However, almost everything could be made gluten free and the lady that took our order explained the options clearly with confidence.
If you’re not celiac or aren’t as sensitive to cross contamination, Butter Milk Ranch is a great option. Unfortunately it’s not an option for me.
